I have a couple of slides that are created by a PowerPoint (PP) 2013 on a Windows machine. These slides contain many formulas that I created with the internal formal editor of PP. However, when I open the slides with PP 2011 for Mac, the formulas are not displayed correctly.
The Equation Editor in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint within Office 2011. Equations from the Office Ribbon Follow these steps to create a symbol or a formula in Word 2011 from within the Ribbon. Equation Editors in Excel 2010 and Word 2011 The Equation Editor is new in Excel 2010 and designed to create a mathematical equation as a graphical object. I didn’t find it in Excel 2011 for Mac, but ran across an article showing they put it inside Word 2011. PowerPoint 2016 for Mac finally includes the new-style equation editor (which was already available in Word for Mac and PowerPoint for Windows). An equation can be inserted using a ribbon button (Insert → Insert Equation).
Feb 13, 2016 Hi All, I have just had my trusty Macbook pro break on me and I'm facing a large repair bill. I'm considering a replacement and am looking at the Mac Mini. Jan 22, 2016 Mac Mini for photo editing. Discussion in 'Mac mini' started by 147798, Jan 21, 2016. Most Liked Posts. 147798, Jan 21, 2016. 147798 Suspended. The question is though, will Apple be updating the Mac Mini soon and if so with what. Honestly though I think any 2012 quad core or 2014 above the base model will serve you well. Photo editor for mac mini. Oct 30, 2015 Hi all. Does anyone use a mac mini for photo editing? I'm considering a Mac Mini 3.0Ghz & 16Gb Ram. I shoot 5DIII and RAW only. The Mac Mini 2012 is also a great machine for photo editing. You can pair it with any monitor of your choice which is important if you require absolute colour accuracy. The USB 3 and SD card slot are blazing fast at importing photos. Oct 11, 2015 I do not know if OpenCL runs on a Mac Mini or if that would make any real difference in photo editing. I do not even know if the Mini Intel IRIS graphics is a separate graphics card or if it is on-board processing.

Is there any way this can be fixed, without converting the formulas to images?

There are a couple of ways to solve this:
The first way (recommended)
Assuming you have a Windows PC with PowerPoint '13 installed you need to save the document in the older compatibility mode for Office 2010 (or PowerPoint 2010). This will ensure compatibility with Office 2011 for Mac (which is actually Office 2010).
The second way
Open Onedrive, Upload your document, edit it in PowerPoint Online, and Download as ODP or Open Document Presentation. Your Mac should now be able to open it and everything should work.
The third, and final way (not recommended)
Use a online conversion tool such as Convert Files. This way is not recommended, as it can screw with the document layout.
EDIT
If you want to know why Office 2011 for Mac is considered Office 2010, the same as XP (released in 2003) is considered released in 2002, it's because MS when releasing OS and Office alike, release the RTM (Release To Manufacturers) in the last months of the previous year with the XP RTM being released in 2002, and Office 2010 RTM betas being released in 2009.
Interestingly, the rest of the world has adopted this (except Apple, who have their own clockwork release dates), E.G. Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2015 was actually released to the public at the end of 2014.
